Set in 1925, on the Amityville Creek and Great South Bay, Jake Chichester longs for the simple life of a clammer, like his father before him. But the harsh realities of Prohibition have the local baymen pitted against the Coast Guard as they resort to rum-running to help pay the rent.
Jake is building a rum-runner, a boat that will outrun the fastest cutter of the Coast Guard fleet. It is still a game that the baymen are winning, but maybe not for long.
Jake's rum-running path crosses with an ambitious Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer who needs an important seizure to further his career. Their personal battle plays out on the Great South Bay, escalating to a final deadly battle on the Forth of July.
The story plays out against a background of social change, local prejudice and the country's economic decline leading to the Great Depression.
Look for The Last Bayman to be available in the Fall of 2020.
